Running has always been a part of my own personal wellness regimen but joining the Boston Bulldogs has added an entirely new dimension. Being a part of a team, sharing experiences and supporting others in recovery while training simultaneously has added health benefits and a sense of fellowship that go beyond mere physical fitness. This year I will celebrate 18 years of sobriety, and running has played a key role in my journey. I’m honored for this opportunity to support the Boston Bulldogs and run my first-ever marathon—which just so happens to be one of the most iconic races in the history of the sport! To me, this race represents the friendships I've cultivated through running, the sacrifice of time and body to train, and uniting people from all backgrounds under a common banner ... As someone who has lost several loved ones from this disease, I am honored to be able to help shine that light on those who help people get to the other side of the darkness. No one should feel alone in this battle, which does not end at sobriety, but only just begins, and the Bulldogs provide that support and community to go to battle for those who need it most. My experience with the Boston Bulldogs has made me understand how important it is to rely on a team, when you feel that you cannot get out of the darkness, they are waiting for you and lend a hand, when you are alone or lost. We are all equally important to the Boston Bulldogs and they will be there for you.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE Maggie Cole In 2020 I found the Boston Bulldogs while grieving the loss of my boyfriend Sean, an avid member of the Club, who lost his battle with addiction. The Bulldogs were a huge part of Sean’s life. He talked about the club and running marathons everyday and I remember thinking “Wow I wish I could do that, but I definitely can’t.” He looked at me one day and said “promise me you’ll join the Bulldogs and promise me you’ll run at least one marathon.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE JoJo D'Augustine
I joined the Bulldogs in January 2020. Before that I never considered myself a runner and if we are being honest, that first day I barely made it two laps around the reservoir. Like many of us do when a new year comes around, we try and make a resolution. For me, it was to get into better health with a goal of maybe one day being strong enough to run a marathon. I found the Bulldogs online through a simple web search - “beginner running clubs near me.” Having been impacted by addiction, when I read about their mission I felt connected and wanted to support. What I didn’t realize was how much this community would actually in turn be the ones who supported me. For that I am forever grateful. Fast forward to eight months later on Sept 19th 2020, I ran my first marathon. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE |
Ashley Coffey
My name is Ashley and I have been a grateful member of the Boston Bulldogs since November 2018, when I started my journey in recovery from drugs and alcohol. Running the Boston Marathon for the Boston Bulldogs is an honor & privilege. After watching the Bulldogs' marathon team in 2019, I started to think that if I applied the same principles laid out for us, maybe I could do it too. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE Julio Cortes del Olmo
I understand the incredible value of having a community of friends who support each other, that when you work on your attitude and apply effort every day, fear cannot stop you. I am running the 2021 virtual Boston Marathon to fulfill a dream, support my friends, and give back to this club that has given me so much. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE Stan Fleming
My name is Stan and I have been a member of The Boston Bulldogs since April of 2021. I have struggled with an addiction to drugs and alcohol and mental illness for most my life. By the grace of God I found my way to the 12 Steps program of Alcoholics Anonymous in March of 2020 and have been sober since. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE Conan Langlois
I am both honored and humbled to be part of the 2021 Bulldogs Marathon Team. On some days, I’m still in disbelief that I will be running a marathon, let alone the Boston Marathon. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE |

I never thought I’d run for fun or be able to run 1 mile. When I joined the Boston Bulldogs I didn’t know what I expected to get out of joining. I got a family of people who have pushed me to reach goals I didn’t know I had and beyond. I wouldn’t even consider running if it weren’t for them and I want to be on the team that got me to the point of believing a marathon was an obtainable goal. I remember when I ran my first marathon, I was sure it’d be a one and done experience. Mostly because it seemed like a task close to impossible as I was just getting sober and didn't have a handle on it by any means. After training through the brutal winter in 2014 and having it rain down in buckets on race day in 2015, I couldn't understand why people thought running marathons was a good idea, never mind fun! I have been clean and sober for over 15 years and I continue to advocate for and support the recovery community. I found the Boston Bulldogs while training for my 2019 Boston Marathon. Finding a running community that supports wellness, recovery and community was a game changer for me. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE Adam Shurtleff
I chose to run the marathon, very simply put, for all the people who have lost their lives to addiction and do not have the opportunity to do so themselves. The Bulldogs are a wonderful, encouraging club that support an excellent cause. I am honored to be running for them and alongside them. Thank you for joining me in support of wellness and recovery!
